International Women's Day

International Women's Day - A meaningful surprise for our women

Today was a special day at our school. On the occasion of International Women's Day, we wanted to treat the 30 strong women that visit our school daily to a surprise. These women have lived through horror. They fled from ISIS, lost family members and now have to live in refugee camps. Despite it all, they visit our school daily in order to knit, sew and to gain back a piece of normality; a moment of rest, far away from the difficult daily life in the camp.

With a lot of love and devotion, our students have been working on surprise boxes over the last few days. They filled them with personal-care products, knitting and sewing utensils as well as candy - small things that carry a lot of meaning. Today, the day had finally come: The children got to present their gifts to the women. The surprise was succesful and the joy in the faces of the women was a moment filled with light and hope.

Our school is more than just a place for education. Our Bridge is a community that supports each other: Today, our children showed us that they don't just aquire knowledge, but also learn about empathy, greatefulness and humanness.

We wish every woman - especially those frequently forgotten - a strong, hopeful and beautiful International Women's Day.
