As you all know, the German Bundeswehr came by to build new furniture for our school corridor a few weeks ago. This furniture is being used by our children every single day - a place for learning, sharing meals, playing and meeting. Instead of getting rid of our old furniture, we worked together with our students to give new life to it. The children removed the table legs, built small cupboards and painted and decorated them to their heart's desire.
The best thing: At the end, every child was able to take their own piece home. A small piece of furniture that becomes something special in the tent - a sign of dignity, creativity and hope amidst the harsh daily life in the refugee camp.
This was a quiet, but powerful moment for us: Children who not only learned, but created and experienced that even something old can be turned into something new.
