My name is Avin. I am eight years old and I live with my grandma and grandpa in Shohati Camp. Shohati Camp is an unofficial refugee camp set up in a field in Khanke. Our electricity is tapped by my grandpa from an electric pole nearby. This is not allowed, but we have no other choice and don't know how else to help ourselves. My mother took my siblings and went to Germany a few years ago. She left me here because I was young and she couldn't take care of me anymore. Since then I have been living with my grandparents. My father married another woman and also has children with her, but he does not take care of me. I am not allowed to go to visit him either. On August 03, 2014, our town was attacked by the 'IS'. We had to flee. I don't remember Shingal, but my grandparents sometimes tell me about Shingal. They say it was very nice there and they were happier there than here. My friend Heiko's mother told me about Our Bridge and told my grandparents to register me here. After that I registered. I can play here with friends, eat here, get clothes, hygiene articles and pocket money every week. My wish for the future is that Our Bridge will open a kitchen for children so that I can learn to cook with my friends.
