Education
Education is the key to a self-determined future.
The education programme
A two-storey side building was added in 2017 following a successful photo and film exhibition. The new building offers six bedrooms with 48 beds, two bathrooms and a kitchen.
In spring 2018 the children and widows were moved into the new building while the previous bedrooms were converted into classrooms.
Investments from donations:
- A bus to transport children from refugee camps
- A wooden house with a bicycle workshop
- Sewing machines for sewing courses for widows
- Additional teaching and care staff
„Today 28 permanently employed, highly motivated staff work for Our Bridge directly on site in Khanke.“

On 1 March 2018 the education programme started with 258 children. Classes run Sunday through Thursday in early and afternoon shifts of three hours per class.

The teachers in the education programme and the carers in the orphanage are the heart and hands of Our Bridge.
The team includes 27 permanently employed staff in Kurdistan-Iraq, including specialist teachers for maths, sports, English, arts, IT, environment and pedagogy. We actively support further training and university degrees.
