We'd like to share a touching story with you today: Other than the many refugee children that attend our school, we take care of 30 brave widows who fled from ISIS from Northern Iraq. Some of them have survived terrible times in ISIS captivity and are still missing some of their loved ones.
For a couple of years now, we've been offering sewing and knitting classes for these women. These classes are more than just a crafty activity - they are an oasis of calm and normalcy in the often difficult daily life at the camp. Here, the women have the chance of connecting with other women and experiencing a change of pace. With a lot of love and expertise, they sew and knit hats, scarves and clothing for our children in order to provide them with warmth in the winter months. The women receive a small allowance for their valuable work that helps them support and feed their familiies.
A little while ago, these women had a special wish: a day trip to Lalish. Thanks to your support, we were able to make this dream come true. They took our school bus and spent an unforgettable day with a picnic. The day was filled with laughter, community and joy - a small but meaningful ray of light in the lives of these women.
We are incredibly proud of these strong women and we are thankful that we are able to offer these moments of joy to them. Your continuous support makes experiences like these possible.
Thank You for being a part of this community and for walking this road together with us.
